【摘要】:CompactiontestsonsoilsperformedinaccordancewithTestMethodsD698,D1557,andD4253placelimitationsonthemaximumsizeofparticlesthatmaybeusedinthetest.Ifasoilcontainscobblesorgravel,orboth,testoptionsmaybeselectedwhichresultinparticlesretainedonaspecificsievebeingdiscarded(forexampletheNo.4(4.75-mm)orthex00BE;-in.(19-mm)orotherappropriatesize),andthetestperformedonthefinerfraction.Theunitweightx2013;watercontentrelationsdeterminedbythetestsreflectthecharacteristicsoftheactualmaterialtested,andnotthecharacteristicsofthetotalsoilmaterialfromwhichthetestspecimenwasobtained.Itiscommonengineeringpracticetouselaboratorycompactiontestsforthedesign,specification,andconstructioncontrolofsoilsusedinearthconstruction.Ifasoilusedinconstructioncontainslargeparticles,andonlythefinerfractionisusedforlaboratorytests,somemethodofcorrectingthelaboratorytestresultstoreflectthecharacteristicsofthetotalsoilisneeded.Thispracticeprovidesamathematicalequationforcorrectingtheunitweightandwatercontentofthetestedfinerfractionofasoil,todeterminetheunitweightandwatercontentofthetotalsoil.Similarly,thispracticeprovidesameansforcorrectingtheunitweightandwatercontentoffieldcompactedsamplesofthetotalsoil,sothatvaluescanbecomparedwiththoseforalaboratorycompactedfinerfraction.Note18212;Whenthispracticeisusedforconstructioncontrol,theusingagencyshouldspecifywhetherthemaximumunitweightvalueusedforreferenceistheunitweightincludingoversizefractionortheunitweightofthefinerfraction.Calculatedvaluesofpercentcompactionbasedonthiscorrectionpracticewillvarydependingonwhichunitweightvalueisusedforreference.1.1Thispracticepresentsaprocedureforcalculatingtheunitweightsandwatercontentsofsoilscontainingoversizeparticleswhenthedataareknownforthesoilfractionwiththeoversizeparticlesremoved.1.2Thepracticealsocanbeusedtocalculatetheunitweightsandwatercontentsofsoilfractionswhenthedataareknownforthetotalsoilsamplecontainingoversizeparticles.1.3Thispracticeisbasedontestsperformedonsoilsandsoil-rockmixturesinwhichtheportionconsideredoversizeisthatfractionofthematerialretainedontheNo.4sieve.Basedonthesetests,thispracticeisapplicabletosoilsandsoil-rockmixturesinwhichupto40%ofthematerialisretainedontheNo.4sieve.Thepracticealsoisconsideredvalidwhentheoversizefractionisthatportionretainedonsomeothersieve,suchasthe3/4-in.sieve,butthelimitingpercentageofoversizeparticlesforwhichthecorrectionisvalidmaybelower.However,thepracticeisconsideredvalidformaterialshavingupto30%oversizeparticleswhentheoversizefractionisthatportionretainedonthe3/4-in.sieve.1.4Thefactorcontrollingthemaximumpermissiblepercentageofoversizeparticlesiswhetherinterferencebetweentheoversizeparticlesaffectstheunitweightofthefinerfraction.Forsomegradations,thisinterferencemaybegintooccuratlowerpercentagesofoversizeparticles,sothelimitingpercentagemustbelowerforthesematerialstoavoidinaccuraciesinthecomputedcorrection.Thepersonoragencyusingthispracticeshalldeterminewhetheralowerpercentageistobeused.1.5Thispracticemaybeappliedtosoilswithanypercentageofoversizeparticlessubjecttothelimitationsgivenin1.4and.However,thecorrectionmaynotbeofpracticalsignificanceforsoilswithonlysmallperc......
